‘ED (not quite TED) Talks – Japanese Loos – The Bottom Line

12th February @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Why are Japan’s high-tech toilets the answer to bathroom challenges?

If you’ve ever been to Japan, the chances are that you will have come across the intriguing preoccupation with cleanliness, and in particular their stylish, all-singing-and-dancing “bidet toilets”. Leading Japanese manufacturer, Toto has invested more than 40 years of R&D in their remarkable Washlet loos, of which they have sold over 50 million units internationally since it was first introduced in 1980.

As a project manager focused on future-proofing & adapting homes, Rebecca Orde sees access and use of the bathroom as one of the greatest challenges facing us as we get older, or experience some form of disability.  So following a great deal of research, the subject of toilets has become something of an obsession.

Rebecca will take us on short journey of interesting stats, intriguing facts with the occasional pun thrown….and as it’s lunchtime she will try not to leave you flushed with embarrassment
