Great customer service is the key to success says  Neil Bharadwa of the Cambridge Fruit Company.

This was just one of the great tips that Neil shared with Drive members.

There are lots of other great tips and insights into building a succesful business as Neil tells Andy Boothman in this very funny interview.

You can hear it here:

13 years ago Neil was was made redundant from his banking job in London. His wife had just given birth to their daughter. The pressure was on, a new family and suddenly no job… Neil didn’t know what to do next.

Inspired by an idea he’s seen on holiday, Neil started with a ‘fruit and vegetable round’ on the science and business parks of Cambridge. It wasn’t long before the local businesses saw the long queues of people at the van and they approached Neil and asked him to deliver boxes of fruit directly to them.

The boxes quickly proved to be more popular than the round, Neil was getting enquiries every day for more fruit box deliveries. So he made the decision to stop the ‘round’ and focused on developing the fruit boxes.

The Cambridge Fruit Company has never looked back. But as his success grew, Neil found himself becoming overwhelmed with enquiries and working silly hours, which meant he was missing time with his growing family. At this point, he asked his sister, Nisha, to join him in the business.

Today, Neil and Nisha run the business together with a team of employees. They are proud to be running a family business, they share the same values and ethos – putting customers first – servicing and supplying the best produce that they can source. Their mission is clear – to be Cambridge’s favourite supplier of fresh fruit to the workplace.
